Much of our antique flooring is made from boards that have been re-sawn from old barn beams and old factory beams. These boards will not have an old original surface and will have a clean surface look, but will have all of the other wonderful characteristics of an antique floor. |
For people who want a tight fitting floor, the edges need to be re-milled with a tongue and groove. The old top surface and patina can be preserved, but because it is machine made, the control factor is lost and some boards may have a cleaner look than others. |
Signature flooring means that three old surfaces are retained and hand sanded. The top surface and both edges are kept as original surfaces. This produces the most original looking flooring that you can buy. |
Hand sawn timber and boards should be finished to preserve and enhance the original saw marks. A light hand sanding will do this best. Sometimes hand brushing and hand planing are included. |
The term "hand hewn sanded" is a more finished look which has been sanded with a buffer sander. The finish can be enhanced by a light sanding and sometimes a coat of tung oil is added. |
The term (as is) surfaces are usually only lightly brushed to clean the surface. Hand hewn beams and old roof boards are frequently used in this way. |
