Antique Heart Pine

Antique Heart Pine is noted for its unusual hardness and its beautiful color of amber and orange to mellow pinkish red. Antique heart pine flooring is nearly as hard as Red Oak. When its old original patina is maintained, it will have a more brown color.

Antique Heart Pine Flooring

Antique heart pine flooring plank widths are normally available from 3” to 12” and occasionally up to 18”. We produce the standard 4/4 product re-sawn from old factory timbers but specialize in our 5/4 Signature Antique Floors with three old original faces which maintain the original sought after amber brown look combined with the walk smooth feel of 100-200 year old original flooring. Antique heart pine flooring planks can often be custom made with lengths from 10 feet to 20 feet long as it might have been handcrafted more than 100 years ago. These antiques pine floors are truly spectacular and must be seen to really appreciate thier beauty. Samples are available, but a small sample just does not do justice to this floor.

Antique Heart Pine – Antique Softwoods

Antique heart pine is the most primitive and oldest wood on the planet and often can be from 100-150 years old. Our Signature Antique Floors (three original sides) are almost exclusively made from old pine and all this antique heart pine will have the look of an original walk smooth floor. It should be noted that the word softwood or pine should not be confused with the hardness or durability of the product.

Rustic Antique Heart Pine

Antique Heart Pine - One of the Most Durable Flooring

Antique Heart Pine or Longleaf Pine is one of the most durable and hardest woods that has ever been grown in the United States and ranks on a hardness scale well above many hardwoods such as Butternut, Chestnut, Walnut and Cherry, and is nearly the same as the hardness of Red Oak.

Antique heart pine flooring is so durable that it was the wood of choice over oak to be used in the construction of most of the factories built at the turn of the 19th century.  The most commonly sought after species of Pine-Softwood are Antique Heart Pine, Antique White Pine, Antique Red Pine, Antique Fir, Antique Spruce, Antique Hemlock, and Antique Redwood.

Antique Hardwoods

Some species of antique hardwood are supplied in very large quantities, especially Tobacco Barn Oak and Mushroom Wood. Other antique hardwood products like Antique Maple, Antique Birch, Antique Elm and Antique Chestnut are available in smaller quantities. They are readily available in the 3000-5000 SF range. Larger quantities would require a longer production time.

Antique Tobacco Barn Oak

Our Second Featured Product
Tobacco Barn Oak is one of our specialty products and is made from siding salvaged and recycled from 100 year old tobacco barns that are currently being de-constructed. It is one of our most beautiful and popular products and comes in two forms: character grade and rustic grade.

Tobacco Farm

  • Character Grade: The character grade is tongue & grooved with a re-milled top surface that shows all the beauty of center cut quarter-sawn and flat grain oak with a beautiful aged patina.

Rustic Grade

Character Grade

  • Rustic Grade: The rustic grade is tongue & grooved with an original hand brushed top finish that maintains all of the character of 100 year old Barn Wood.

Vintage Hardwoods and Softwoods

Our Vintage products are our largest selling items which include Red Oak, White Oak, Cherry, Walnut, Hickory, Maple, Ash and Beech, as well as White Pine, Spruce, Hemlock, Red Pine, and Fir. Our most sought after product is our Vintage Heart Pine. Some of our finest and oldest wood comes from salvaged yard trees and reclaimed roadside trees, but much comes from managed sustainable farm wood lots. Sustainable forests allow new growth trees to survive and grow.  This practice insures a steady supply of top quality wood for our future generations and provides our customers with high quality 6 inch to 20 inch planks that can be purchased at lower prices.

Our handcrafted Vintage Signature floors are best explained by visiting our Design Center and Showroom in Pine Plains. They are a must see product.

Vintage White Oak

Vintage White Oak

Vintage White Oak

It is often used as paneling on interior walls or on ceilings, in combination with our hand sawn beams and hand hewn beams, or it can be used as a very rustic cabin-type floor. Tobacco Barn Oak was originally cut from small farm wood lots and was traditionally a merger of all the subspecies of Oak from the area and will include the main species of Red Oak and White Oak. It may also include a blend of less common Oak species such as Chestnut Oak, Black Oak, Pine Oak, Burr Oak and Swamp Oak. The blend enhances the feel of this product.

We strongly recommend a trip to our Design Center Showroom to really understand and appreciate the beauty and individuality of these antique floors.
