Antique Floor Wood and Reclaimed Wood Flooring

Antique Floor Wood and Reclaimed Wood flooring is noted for its hardness and its beautiful color. Unlike some re-manufactured reclaimed wood flooring with an almost new look, AVW strives to have its reclaimed wood flooring look like an original 150 year old salvaged wood floor. To accomplish this, AVW does a number of things to its reclaimed wood floors that may be done in other places.

Firstly, AVW’s reclaimed wood flooring is made with three original old surfaces. After 150 years of wear, these salvaged wood surfaces have a natural contoured look that cannot be reproduced by a machine. We strive to maintain the 150 year old patina of salvaged and reclaimed wood flooring on all three exposed surfaces. Re-manufactured wood flooring cannot achieve this look because machines are used which give sharp clean new edges and perfectly flat surfaces with all the patina removed.

• Secondly, original antique wood floors were always eight to sixteen foot lengths and sometimes up to 20 foot lengths.

Re-manufactured flooring goes through a defecting process to take out the knots and discolored or damaged wood to give you that new floor look. It produces a reclaimed wood floor with lengths of one to 8 feet long.  Some may say, this re-manufactured floor is a trouble-free and easy floor to ship because of its short lengths. AVW’s  reclaimed wood flooring will be six feet to sixteen feet or longer and maintain all of the original charm of 150 year old reclaimed wood floors. We hand work the knots and defects to enhance their original beauty. Although our reclaimed wood is much more difficult to ship and takes longer to install properly, we feel that the authentic look of our 150 year old reclaimed wood flooring is worth the extra effort.

Thirdly, an original prized salvaged and reclaimed wood floor would be made from wide boards of random widths from six inches to twelve inches wide and frequently even wider. Most remanufactured wood flooring will be three inches to six inches wide and may be told that this is a trouble free reclaimed wood flooring because these floors do not have shrinkage problems. The reclaimed wood flooring at AVW will retain the old original wide plank flooring that is so prized. Our wide plank flooring will retain its authentic and original checking and cracking of 150 year old reclaimed wood flooring.

Although we can and do produce a remanufactured floor, our signature flooring will always retain the characteristics of original reclaimed flooring  as described above. These are old original contoured surfaces; long lengths of six feet to 16 feet lengths and longer; and wide widths of 6 inches to twelve inches or wider.
